A British peer and member of the European Parliament is the latest high profile name to become patron of Afghan Heroes, a registered charity set up by the mothers of soldiers killed in the Afghanistan conflict.
The Earl of Dartmouth, William Legge MEP, will provide support to the charity that has become one of the most high profile military support groups since its launch in September 2009.
The charity provides support for the families of the fallen and the returning personnel who have witnessed the losses of their fellow comrades as well as soldiers on the front line.
Founder Denise Harris said: “To have someone like the Earl of Dartmouth support our charity is fantastic. We hope his position will help raise the profile of what we’re trying to do not only to the general public but to those who represent the country in Westminster and Brussels.
“The response we’ve had to date from the public has been phenomenal. Because of people’s generosity we’re now putting in place final plans ready to pack 10,000 boxes of home comforts for troops on the front line.
“We’re still appealing to supermarkets, manufacturers and suppliers to help us fill the boxes of home comforts.”
The charity is looking for companies to donate specific goods that will then be sent to the 10,000 troops on Armed Forces Day in June as part of its ‘Thank The Troops’ initiative.
