IT’S OFFICIAL THE AFGHAN HEROES “THUNDER RALLY” 2010
Fri 25th June – Sun 27th June

Afghan Heroes in conjunction with Chepstow Racecourse is preparing a weekend Rally in recognition of Armed Forces Day 2010. Afghan Heroes first mission was to despatch 10,000 parcels to all serving troops (Tri-Forces) in Afghanistan. These have been despatched and are due to arrive in time for 26th June Armed Forces Day.
Afghan Heroes have an objective, to create a live-link from Chepstow Racecourse to Camp Bastion, Afghanistan, where our troops will be in receipt of their comfort parcels.
The Bikers have taken Afghan Heroes to heart, your goodwill, support and enthusiasm has been sincerely appreciated, you raised a phenomenal £102,000 (and still climbing) at Wootton Bassett, we thank you and more importantly our serving forces and their extended families thank you! Our missions are huge, and together we will make a difference, it’s the PEOPLE.
The event:
Following the success of the Wootton Bassett Bike Ride and the wonderful tribute made by the Bikers to the people of Wootton Bassett and the charity Afghan Heroes we would like to thank the Bikers the public and are Armed Forces for their support by introducing the inaugural THUNDER RALLY. Good afternoon. Sounds like a fantastic event. However, WHEN does registration open, how long does the rally last? Is this a typical Bikers Rally that runs from Friday until Sunday? Also, how do we go about registering? Many thanks.
Registration has been open for some time now you must get registered quick as the main camp site is filling up quickly and the overspill camping is a bit of a walk away!
how do I register for a trade slot?
how do we register?
looks like you might have to buy merchandise to register. thats how it reads to us.
No, merchandise is optional.
Contact dannyr42@talktalk.net for trade stalls
sounds great to me.cant wait
Could be being dense but how do I register for this event?
Check the afghan hereos website or just scroll up to where it says Register Here
How do I register for this event please .
Looking forward to this!! Please keep me updated with all progress as I wish to register asap!
How do we register, I might have missed that bit. My husband and I did the Mothers Day ride out and would love to take part in this
How do we register. My husband and I did the Mothers day rideout and would love to be part of this
Great, already booked the friday(and Monday!) off work.
Fantastic, cannot wait for this event
all of us from north wales that took part in the wootten bassett run will be attending this event
how do we register for the event my wife and i have a bike each and 1 tent cheers
I would love to help at this event, and could probably drum up a few other to help too, ie marshalls, manning entry gate ?? I can take some time off work and be there a day or two early if required, live 30 miles from the event.
Mike
Please contact me with regard to helpingout at event if you are still interested Danny
I really do hope that i can be there and this time and get to talk to people whom i only know online.I want to meet Julia,Paul,Tony,Shaun,Phil and the rest in person as i feel it would be good to put faces to the names at last.
Are you going to do T shirts to fit the erm…… larger customer ;^)?

HI TIM
can you PLEASE tell me how to register for this event,i was at the wootton bassett ride out and i would really like to be at this one(and the wife),
i have been through the afghan heroes website several times and can not seem to find anything on how to register all i can seem to find is the end date for registration PLEASE HELP,
kind regards
lee bruton
PS keep up the good work
Registrations will open tomorrow.
HI TIM registerd as soon as i got home from work , only one question will there be undercover parking for the bikes if not ,not a problem i’ll bring a cover just thought id ask thats all,
kind regards
lee bruton
I think that the main bike park will be uncovered but monitored by security. There will also be a limited number of secured (locked) units for some bikes but these will probably be at additional cost and will be on a first come first served basis.
tim will there be spaces for camper vans mobilehomes etc
As I understand it there will be parking for cars, I will confirm campers etc asap.
Sounds a great event but again at quite short notice.
Most Biker Clubs have their diaries filled by January for the coming year so unlike the Wootton Bassett run that was ‘out of season’ this one is right in the middle of already pre-arranged rallies.
This type of large rally needs to be advertised at least 6 months before ticket sales go live to give riders time to decide which rallies they are doing in the coming year.
good luck with it but I know most of our club are already booked for this weekend.
Shame as we like to support our Heroes.
just found out I wont be able to attend this one
how do we register for this
Silver Fox went on the Mothers Day run and is interested in this, however, he not able to ‘do’ tents, will you be having spaces for those just wishing to go for a day?
We are looking forward to this, i have asked the boss if i can have time off and the wife said yes !!! Just want to get signed up now, tent purchased.
My husband and I did the mothers day ride through wootton bassett. We would love to take part in this event. how do we register, sorry missed that bit……. i think. sounds great cant wait.
HI ALL AT AFGHAN HEROES
i was there in wootton bassett and I’m going to be at this one too CAN’T WAIT , there’s only one thing i need to ask(same as the other 15 comments)PLEASE WHEN CAN I REGISTER,
kind regards
lee bruton
41 year old biker
I will definately be attending this with my wife, how do we register asI don’t seem to be able to find a link to register?
are wethere yet
is there a limit on how many people the site can accomadate,,,
Well, yes but if we get anywhere near that limit we will let people know in advance (and it would be amazing!!)
A few of us did the Mothers Day ride an it was an emotional yet amazing day, this event sounds like a great weekend. Please Please tell us how to register so the people who missed the Mothers Day ride don’t miss out this time.
we will be there , we did the Mothers Day & looking forward to it
Please tell us how to register
What about calling this rally:- “The Wootton Thunder – Rally in support of the Armed Services”?
Great news – I see that registration is now open. How do I register my children? Do they really have to pay £20 too?
I think kids don’t need to register, obviously they need to be accompanied by a registered adult.
Hi Tim,
I have now registered, paid the donation, and ordered the badges etc etc, so look forward to seeing you all again.
As I use a veteran single seater Cafe Racer for meetings and ride outs, I need a bit of help. As it is not practical to ride the distance from Stoke to the Rally on my type of Bike, and as it has no facilities to carry camping gear, I normally transport it in a van, then use it for the rideouts etc. Do you know if there is any car park facilities where I can leave a van during the weekend ? Or do you have the name of someone I could communicate with regarding this ? Thank you.
clivealexander@hotmail.com
Yes there will be parking for cars/vans.
i can only attend one day is this possible ??
Not sure – will confirm
Will the guy who ordered the sunshine for Wootten Bassett please order a bit more for this weekend. Thanks.
hi folks cant do the camping but would love to come down for the day … went on wootton bassett run and would love to do this please say its ok
Is this a no bike no entry rally or do you have disabled exceptions? Also if so is there disabled facillities available on site? (wheelchair users X2)
We would love to attend as we couldn’t do the mothers day run and we do support our troupes 110%. Been fundraising for 20 months for h4h and Afghan heros at local bike rallies.
Looking forward to your response, Sally xx
I will check.
Tim I’m still waiting for a reply so I can regester our club member who are coming by bike and us in the car. Due to our disability we use a trailor tent can you check this is ok too please. Looking forward to a quick response.
Hi it doesnt matter if you dont have a bike there is pedestrian access and a large car park adjacent to the event Danny
Registration is OPEN If anybody would like to help at the event please email me on info@afghanheroes.org.uk
thank you for all your support
is this right starting on a fri how long is it going on for count us in but need to sort a sitter out
Fri – Sun
Wife and I did the Wootton Ride in March (Incredible event!!) – and would love to be part of this event, particularly the ride out… Unfortunately, camping out overnight isnt an option for us – can you let us know the schedule / itinerary (when available), and as previously asked, the options for turning up on a daily basis?
Cheers!
I’ve booked & paid but now find I’m chauffeur for daughter on the saturday, presumably I could come down on one of the other days,
Yep No problems.
Hi there Tim.
You wrote there is a main bike park, can we not park our bikes by our tents?
Also can i bring two tents?
I believe there are H&S issues re: bikes next to tents – but we will confirm soon. Do you need two tents? If there are two of you registed then you can bring a tent each if you wish.
you can park your bikes next to your tents Danny
Hi Everyone
FULL FAQ WILL BE ISSUED WITHIN THE NEXT 48HRS.
Thank you for your support we look forward to seeig you all there.
Hi Tim
we are now registerd, will we get tickets sent out or email passes like the mothers day run
thanks 2Alz
This is just so confusing. In the afghan heroes april newsletter there was mention of a West Wales Bike rally. I looked for this on the website in vain. Having just received my wristbans from Wootten Basset, the envelope said don’t forget to register for the Thunder Rally ??
So looking on the website I see an Armed Forces Rally. Can’t see anee anything about it being a biking event except one small mention of a rideout.
Is it me??
The attraction of Wotten Bassett, apart from the ability to support our troops was that it was a biking event.
http://afgh.org/thunder try this page for details.
can i bring small dog?
Not sure – we will get an FAQ sorted out soon.
Sorry no animals allowed on site other than human ones! Danny
As both Sue and myself are registered disabled and also both on L plates we are not allowed on motorway/bridge.Would it be at all possible for us to come in the Camper?????with possibly my brother-in-law as well.I attended the Wootton Bassett ride on Sue`s trike and really did enjoy myself so would really like Sue to be able to meet up with the peeps that she talks to online all the time.
Thanking you in advance,BILL
I doubt that would be a problem.
I live just over the bridge so can I come for the day?
Yep, but you will still need to register.
how many are already registered for the rally and how many are allowed to register this time?
I see the cut off for registration is 1st May so is the rally booking up fast?
can we park our bike next to our tent as I am unable to carry luggage as I am registered disabled.
will there be a ‘quiete camping area’ for us who need some rest at night?
Not sure on total number yet but the site is huge so we can accommodate large numbers. Not sure on the bike parking as yet but in truth I doubt it as it posses a fairly big risk having bikes nest to tents.
Do we have to be in the Camping & Caravan Club to attend as I see there are caravans and camper vans going……IS this a BIKE RALLY ?
It is a bike rally, yes.
No you dont need a bike, no you dont need to be a member of any organisation, and yes you can come in camper, caravan, or on foot, for the day or the weekend Danny
tim i`m pretty local so wont be staying overnite will the £20 cover entry for all the days ie:travel back n forth the event over the weekend, that`ll leave you with an extra tent space you can sell again…
its gonna be a big event listening to the buzz goin around on the net.
The £20 is just a donation – The wristband is the ticket and you can use it on one day or all three.
if you look at the page under the Merchandise section in big bold letters it says ”REGISTER HERE TODAY UNDERLINED” click on that link and you can register for the event
i registerd as soon as i had the e.mail, cannot wait, paid £40 for two and camping,is this correct.
Registered for the event, merchandise ordered, tent and airbed purchased….now what else do I need? Ah yes, another glorious weekend like Mothers Day in Wootton Bassett! Roll on Thunder Rally – Rolling Thunder!! ….now where have I heard that before…?
Unfortunately due to work commitments we won’t be able to attend for the complete weekend. Our we able to to turn up for 1 day? Do we need to register, or can we pay on the gate?
Yes you can come any time you like – you will need a wristband though – these are only available by registering
Hi Tim,
Still haven’t received Band..registered 20th April..Have received conformation E.Mail but nothing by Post as yet? was wondering If there Is a backlog?
Regards
Suzi
I have already registered for this event, but now want to order a tee-shirt. How do I do this? It sounds like you have to order stuff the same time as you register.
The merchandise will be available via the shop shortly
can i park my motorcycle next to my tent ?
i do at other rallies so is it the same or do we have to park them up somewhere else
does anyone need a pillion?
seriously want to go!
reply for bex where are you as im going solo no passenger can give you a lift tony
Check out the thunder rally face book page for rides and people coming to the event with spaces Danny
Yes you can park nex to the tent. Hope that helps
As Davids unaswered question, are we able to park our bike next to our tents?
Is there “music” on the saturday night ? if so who is playing ?
Cheers
Hi did the mothers day ride and had a brill time so have sined up for TR2010 so will see you all there
Hi Suzi,
If you haven’t received your Wootton Bassett wrist band please email me on info@afghanheroes.org.uk with your address and i will send this out to you.
with regards to the rally if you would like to come for the day you still need to register to get your wrist band pass, please when you register put sharing tent this wil not register a tent, there is disabled facilities and plenty of paking for cars, campers but no hook ups for caravans however you can bring them.
Any other questions please email me.
Thank you for your support.
regards
Denise.
Hi Denise,
Unable to send e.mail to info@afghanheroes.org.uk had a delivery status notification(failure)..I registered and I still haven’t received my band, would love to send you an e.mail?
Thanks
Suzi
I did the Wootton Bassett run and will deffinately be at this event, but, HOW do l register for it, or have l just missed something
it would be a good idea to have merchandise available at the event,,more opportunity for fundraising!! looking forward to the rally
Ok i am not sure if all of the various questions have been answered so i will place on public record the following.
Camping-there is “main arena camping” this is very close to the whole event being right in the middle of the race course. There will be an area for the disabled the position of which is yet to be allocated it may be that for ease of access we have you outside of the main arena, but with far better road/.walking conditions, this may however change i will keep you updated but the simple answer is Yes there is disabled camping.
Parking of bikes with tents- Again the simple answer is yes it is allowed the is NO secured parking by which i mean we dont have security patrols planned for the large car parking area outside the venue, again this may change, however there is something that we need to consider that is if we porvide free car/bike parking we dont have to provide any security however if we do charge for parking then obviously we would have to provide security, and in an effort to keep costs down, currently car parking is free but THIS IS SUBJECT TO CHANGE.
Registration- scrol up the page to where it says Register here.
Animals-We are not allowing animals on site so if you have a pet who you want to bing im afraid that you wont be allowed on site.
Generators-No petrol generators will be alllowed on site.
Camp Fire’s-Under no circumstances are open fires allowed, disposable BBQs are alllowed and as long as you follow simple common sense appraoch to BBQs you wont have any issues with security or the site fire team
Acts confirmed as attending the event so far- Matt Shaw as Meatloaf, Hells Bells, Yellow Brick Road, Cheap Suits, Head stagger, 90% Proof, Dementia, Grinder Girls, Just Supposin, White Helmets motorcycle display teram, Tigers Motor bnike display/stunt team, Colosus Jet Trike, MOD Sponsored Rally car, Red Devils Parachute display team, Battle of Britain Memorial Flight, Zoo mudwrestling show plus many more!
Mercahndise is available to purchase on the day if you wish to. Dont forget to book early!
Let the Thunder Roll!
Day visitors-Day visitors are more than welcome to attend the event although billed as a biker rally we wont turn anyone away.
Alcohol-Please do not try to bring your own alcohol to site it will be confiscated on entry, there are more that enough bars on site to cater for your needs and the concessions are dontaing a percentage to the charity and of course the aim is to raise as much money as possible for Afghan Heroes.
Ride Out-The organsiers have taken the decision NOT to organise a ride out, this is for several reasons, However should you wish to visit some of the most spectacular scenery in the country then please remember, Ride Safe and be considerate we dont want to have any complaints or more importantly any accidents while you are with us. Also please be aware that the road outside the venue is a 60 mph road with blind corners and hill brow take your time and be careful! we are currently negotiating with the local authority to have an area set aside in Chepstow for those who wish to ride into town during the saturday and maybe show off the bike this will be confirmed soon.
as far as i understand i have registerd 2 people,1pin badge,1 patch, please can you confirm this
I am thoroughly confused now (prob my age!!?) I registered paid my dues, ordered all the bits and then just read that merchandise will shortly be available from the shop. I thought everything was being sent out, presumably with a wristband or order ID as for WB? Am I jumping the gun? Am I misunderstanding the system?
Please help a confused old man!!
Merchandise purchsed along with your registration will be sent to you, and your a confused old man like me! see you there if i can find it! Danny Event Management Team!
Hi, I registered for the Thunder Rally around 6-8 weeks, got the confirmation codes for both me and my mrs unfortuneatly my computer crashed and I lost the codes-is there any way of getting these codes again or will the wristbands required to get in be sent out automatically.

Charlie
Hi
I live in Chepstow (lucky me!!) and was wondering what time we can go in to pitch a tent on Friday?
Also, are we allowed to take our own booze in??
see we cannot bring our own alcohol in with us,we are not big drinkers but want to enjoy the weekend,it’s ok to say a percentage of what the bars take will go to afghan heroes but they may only be a penny in the pound, and what are we going to be charged for a pint i wonder, not pub prices i bet !
Apparantly the bars are contributing 25p in the pound to the afghan heroes!
I am now not going to make the event.
I have registered but have not received anything through post. How do I get wristbands etc?
Wrist band & patch arrived today, I now might make Sunday just to say I was there.
sounds great hope we can go
sounds great would love to go
Hi Tim, what facilities will be available ? ie WC’s & showers. I can’t seem to find this info on the Afgan web site
mailman just came without my entry wristbands yet again. my mail does not come any earlier than 11 am which now means i cant attend the show because theres no garantee it will arrive tomorrow, i am totally dissapointed and fell my £60 is wasted. If you do this show again next year then i suggest your organisation rethink your strategy and send out the wristbands earlier. I dont think i will be the only person not to recieve them either. I was looking forward to this show with my wife and kids and as an ex member of the armed forces i feel very let down. mick.
Hi Mick,
It has been stated somewhere that if you dont recieve it you will need to bring your email reciept with you and go to prepaid lane where you will be given your wristbands etc.
Hope this answers you and you enjoy yhe event,
Steve

HI Paula

Check out video on YouTube at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zo5kxQbKfNg … you can then purchase the song at iTunes, The HipHop Village and most popular download sites. On this special Armed Forces Day, please support the song. Thanks – Dave (DX2 Music).
WE were there last year on a disabled site, and we are registering again it was a fantastic weekend you meet people from all over they are great and camping was ok but we got really sunburnt just walking about so make sure you take sunoil, see you all there
