2011 Wootton Bassett Mother’s Day Ride

Hi Folks, well the time has finally come!

Afghan Heroes are pleased to announce that we are currently involved in planning the official Afghan Heroes 2011 Wootton Bassett Mother’s Day Ride (name tbc).

Last time the ride raised over £110,000 to help our troops and their loved ones – Following the staggering success of last year we are determined to make this year’s event even better.

Just like last year, a large number of people and organisations are coming together to make this happen, Julia and Gordi (and their team), Whiltshire Police, Wootton Bassett local authority, the Highways Agency, Unity Riders, our coordinators and staff as well as many others. Full details will be released after the planning meeting on the 11th Aug. Once this meeting is concluded we are hoping to have the registration site open by the end of August.

VERY IMPORTANT – The Facebook event page is NOT the registration page, by all means you can register an interest here but you MUST REGISTER via our website (once this page is open) in order to book your place on the ride. As with last year, places will be limited (numbers tbc), so registrations will be on a first come first served basis.

Once again, to confirm, THE REGISTRATION PAGE WILL NOT OPEN UNTIL THE END OF AUGUST!

We will keep you all informed via Facebook/email/twitter and the Afghan Heroes web site.

Could you tell me, when I register at the end of August if I need to include a bike registration number or can I add it at a later date, I’m currently waiting to do my Mod 2 and then purchasing a bike the beginning of September.

    Regards

    Jackie

A gift-aid form so that the tax can be recovered on all our fivers is a superb idea.

    Hi Jackie,

I believe we won’t be taking registration numbers as this caused a masive headache once registered you will be able to change your bike and not have to worry about letting us know, again with pillions if you register then change you don’t have to worry.

    Malcolm & Lorraine,

You should be able to register very soon on the web site.

    Chris,

If you or anybody would like a sponsor form or bucket to collect before the event just email me on info@afghanheroes.org.uk or denise.harris@afghanheroes.org.uk and i will get them out to you.

Thank you all for your kindness and support, we look forward to seeing you all again at next years ride.

My husband and I had a brilliant time this year and will be doing our hardest to attend next year, the only thing that will stop us is if they get moved forward for their Afghanistan deployment, which is April 2011, we should just make it by a week lol.

Would hate to miss out on this through a missed “communique” – I last heard that registration would be open from 11 August and I was away for a fortnight. Later there has been comment on “end of August”…well, that’s tomorrow so is there any change I wonder?

With a bit of luck, we should all be able to relax this time. Maybe even take a comfort break after our long journeys, and tidy ourselves up before that fantastic reception en-route.
Thanks for allowing us to show our apreciation of the sacrefices made.

    Bike safe you lot. Malc.

    Hi once again everyone,
Really looking forward to the Afghan Heroes/Wootton Bassett ride again.
Is it possible for a proper form for people to sign when they make a donation or can I print my own so that you can reclaim the tax from those who have to pay it. I collected just over £1000-00 last time and hope to start earlier this year and hopefully collect more and it would obviously be advantageous to be able to reclaim the tax if this can be collected again ?????????
I would obviously also like to know when I can register please.

Proud to have been on this years Wooton Bassett run. I am 56 & this is my 37th year riding bikes. Was in RAF 1971-1976 & still serve our Fleet Air Arm @ RNAS Yeovilton as a civvy. Next year i would like to offer my help in any way i can,not just do the run. Please give this some consideration. Keep up the great work & God bless you Mums, all the armed forces personnel & all involved in organizing next years run. Steve

Here we are champing at the bit because last year was such an emotional and fulfilling experience, but lets not forget the massive amount of organisation these things take to set up. Give these people a break – patience is a virtue after all. Sure it won’t be long now!

Hello everyone. We at Afghan Heroes just wanted to keep everyone informed of what is going on with the 2011 Wootton Bassett mothers day ride.

The organisers had a planning meeting this week and have told us that this has raised a few issues that need to be resolved before we can open the registration page. They have arranged another meeting for October and hopefully we can open the registrations soon after this meeting.

Just to reiterate, registration will now open in october.

Afghan Heroes would like to thank the organisers for all their hard work an would ask everyone to please bear with us until all the details have been worked out. Please, please, please do not contact the office with questions about the ride – we will keep you all informed as we and when we can.

Hi, Tim. I’m aiming this comment at you because you have made the last official comment, for which I thank you. One of your local reps attended our regular Wednesday BMAD Bike night (down here in Paignton) this week with the latest info. For those who do not have this kind of contact, would it be possible to make this page heading refreshable with the latest info, please? Anyone looking for an official comment has to hope that you, or someone else representing AH, comes up with an answer to one of our questions.
Thanks very much. Like all the others, I’m eagerly awaiting the opening of the register for the 2011 run.
    Bike safe. Malc.

Hello everyone, I am glad to be able to show my respect to all our forces at Wootton Bassett again this year and hope we raise loads more. Have you all seen the petition to the Government to do something about people whose companies have told them not to wear the poppy:- http:/www.gopetition.com/petition/43263html.
To me and I would think all of you, this is an affront to our country as well as our wonderful service Men and Women, who do all they can to protect us and anyone who does not feel this should not be in this country enjoying what we offer under our Queen and Super Service Personnel. We should all wear the Poppy with Pride.
