Wootton Bassett April 3rd 2011
Registrations for the Mother’s day 2011 Ride of Respect through Wootton Bassett are now open! Spaces are limited to 10,000 bikes so we recommend that you sign up early!
This ride pays tribute to the people of Wootton Bassett, RAF Lyneham and the men and women of our armed forces. All money raised will go to Afghan Heroes who help our service personnel directly on the front line; the families of those who have fallen and our returning service personnel who have witnessed these horrific losses of their fellow comrades.
This year’s event was fantastic – let’s see if we can make next year’s even better!

Hi all, I was there with the Jet Trike “Colossus” at the last “Ride of Respect”, and what I need to know is it too late to register for this ride again this year?
Thanks …Slick
Hi Slick – nope, we still have places. Just register via the main site. http://shop.afghanheroes.org.uk/ror2011.asp
Major kudos to you all but any chance of organising something at RAF Leeming, North Yorkshire for all us northern monkeys
my understanding is that the ride of respect is to thank the people of wooton basset for their ongoing support of all the repatriated fallen. It is wooton bassett that comes to a standstill when our fallen heroes hearses come back to RAF Lynham, so would be the only and most appropriate place for the ride
Yorkshire ride is leaving squires 3rd april all details are on yorkshirebikeforum.com
At last, Myself and at least 3 mates have registered once again.
GOD BLESS OUR TROOPS.
Thanks for Letting me know the resignations are open, just booked my place, If its half as good as this year It will BE JUST GOOD!!!! empty pillion seat at this time in Wales-cardiff.
Thanks for that! Now registered and looking forward to it.
At last , got my registration !!! However, I am worried that the number supplied is higher the the limit allowed to register. Can anybody clarify for me that I didn’t pay for something, might not get? Many thanks, keep us informed and see you all soon!:) Irina
Would have loved to have done the ride next year, but I spoke to the Chairman of the Bike Club yesterday at the Bike Show at the NEC, (Sorry forgot his name) He said that 15000 had entered so far. Now just seen that the entry is limited to 10000 so wont bother entering now as you have over 5000 reserves.
Well done on filling the ride so quickly though. Also well done on getting 4000 members of the Bike Club in just 2 weeks. as your Chairman also said yesterday it took the British Legion over 6 years to get 3000 members, and he has eclipsed that in 2 weeks.
He also told me the great news that the Legion are referring clients to you, that they cannot deal with. I always thought they helped soldiers and their families of all conflicts, but the Chairman said they refer all modern conflicts to you as the Legion only deal with WW1 and WW2 veterans.
Well Done
The British Legion support people from all conflicts not just WW1 & WW2. The Riders Branch have a membership total of 3965 and have raised £146,366.00 from march to Feb of this year
The quote below is taken from RBL website
Our welfare work continues to expand and diversify as the welfare needs of the population evolve. The current number of potential beneficiaries for our Poppy Support services is estimated at 9.5 million. The mission of The Royal British Legion is to reach out to the 500,000 who we believe are in the greatest need.
During the last few years, the Legion has introduced new services and extended the reach of existing ones. We spend over £1.2 million a week on our welfare work and as a result, we can help around 100,000 people each year. People like Lance Corporal Peter Dunning who featured in one of our 2009 Poppy Appeal posters and Gunner Mark Stonelake who featured in the 2010 Poppy Appeal campaign.
Great to see it going ahead again this year, we had to cancel taking part last year with 3 days left to go as I discovered the engine had a cracked block not just the cylinder head gaskets, after getting it all put back together again.
Someone, who we did not know, even offered to lend us a bike for the day, but we had already cancelled.
To thank them and everyone else than took part last year, and this next year, my wife and I have volunteered to help as Marshals, long day we expect and two overnight stays (we live in the North East) but it will be worth it.
It is great to see bikers from all over putting any differences to one side to take part in such an event, well done all.
Alison, keep an eye out for the Black Rats Rideout (from Catterick) I believe there will be another one this next year, maybe Mia Felton will/can combine it with the Afghan Heroes (North) rideout, has anyone suggested it to her?
Hi can anyone tell me where I can get a sew on event patch for the 2011 Ride of Respect had one this year (Afghan Heroes Wooton Bassett 14-03/2010) got the True-Heroes one. Be nice to have one to mark the last Ride. Thanks Stu.
Stuart , I am sure you would have got one by now, if not go to the Ride Of Respect site ( Merchandise).
